Product/Service Description
Oman Air was the first airline in the Gulf to introduce the state-of-the-art Boeing 737NG aircraft series in its fleet. The airline's modern fleet comprises 13 new generation Boeing 737-700 and Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Currently, Oman Air is witnessing a period of exciting growth. In 2007, it added nine new destinations taking the count to 25 cities around the world.
The Background
Oman Air is the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman which started operations in 1993 as a regional airline and played a major role over the years in making Muscat a major traffic hub, providing a fillip to commercial, industrial and tourism development in the Sultanate of Oman.
The new interpretation of Oman Air logo design is a decisive step in the evolution of the Oman Air into a brand looking ahead for a strong global presence. It is the visual ignition and the first visual impulse for expressing Oman Air's new self-awareness.
The Convention
What we normally see by way of airline branding symbols is of birds, wings, stylised national flags and flag colour schemes. Rarely do airline logos deviate from this cluster.
The Insight
Come up with a distinctly Omani symbol which is air-related, of local colour and flavour but not a khanjar (overused, difficult to stylize without losing character).
Beyond this, the logo must fulfill all general criteria (such as relevance, differentiation, sustainability, and credibility) and all specific criteria (compatibility, differentiation from other airlines) that are necessary for an airline brand with global aspirations.
The Disruption
A strong brand design is not enough to constitute a strong brand. A strong brand, however, needs a strong brand design.
The new brand logo, a gold and silver swirl, is a contemporary rendition of frankincense smoke. Omani frankincense is among the most powerful and evocative expression of Oman's vibrant history, culture, heritage and people.
Gold represents excellence and achievement and embodies the timeless traditions of Oman. Silver represents its enduring and vibrant heritage. Symbolic of the infinite blue of the sky, turquoise blue denotes the legendary hospitality and welcoming nature of Oman to travellers since ancient times. The blue also refers to the seafaring heritage of Oman.
As a reminder of the brand's origins, the previous bold and compact font reappear, denoting stability, strength and synergy in an otherwise highly volatile airline business environment.
The Vision
Spread a vivid message around the world of a memorable flying experience that is fragrant and easy on the senses.
